Farooq Khan
Farooq Khan has served as Chairman of Bentley Capital Limited since 2004. He was born in Perth and is a qualified lawyer, having graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. Mr Khan is currently admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia, with previous experience as a corporate lawyer for a number of years. After leaving law in the late 1990’s, Farooq Khan guided the establishment and growth of a number of public listed companies in Australia in the investment, mining and financial services sectors. In particular, he founded and concluded a number of successful Initial Public Offers in Australia in the technology and mining sectors. He has extensive experience in the securities industry, capital markets (particularly in capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and investments) and in the executive management of publicly traded companies.
FINANCIAL SERVICES
Within the financial services sector, Mr Khan currently serves as Chairman of Australian Stock Exchange Listed investment companies, Bentley Capital Limited (formerly BT Global Equity Fund) since 2004 and Orion Equities Limited since 2006. Farooq Khan has also served as Executive Chairman of Australian national stockbroking firm, Avcol Stockbrokers prior to its sale to Commonwealth Bank Ltd. Mr Khan has also served as a Non-Executive Director of ASX listed Yellow Brick Road Holdings Ltd from April 2006 to March 2011 and Interim Chairman from December 2010 to March 2011.
RESOURCES AND MINING
Within the resources and mining sectors, Mr Khan founded ASX listed Strike Resources Limited (developing a US$2.9 billion Iron Ore mine in Peru) and has served in various capacities including Chairman, Executive and Non-Executive Director. He currently serves as Executive Chairman. Mr Khan was also a founding Director of ASX listed Alara Resources Limited (projects in zinc in Saudi Arabia and copper/gold in Oman).
TECHNOLOGY
Within the technology sector, Mr Khan founded and has served as Chairman of a number of ASX listed companies included Central Exchange Ltd (first Australian company to be awarded an Australian Carrier Licence utilising VoIP Technology), Queste Communications Ltd (VoIP Telephony) and FastScout Ltd (Internet Filtering and Monitoring Technology). In addition, he has served as Chairman of a number of ASX listed technology companies including Bigshop.com.au Ltd (online retailer) from November 2001 to October 2005 and Sofcom Limited (Internet Services and Web Development) from July 2002 to October 2005.
